jonathanrxd asked: Hey bud! Just wanted to drop you a line that I'm following you and cheering you on. I started running almost two years ago. I dropped about 50 pounds and am now training for my first marathon. You got this!
Thanks for the encouragement. I can’t wait until I’m able to run more than a mile at a time! I’ve got a lot of work to do before my first 5K (at the end of this month) haha.
My lungs!!!
UPDATE: I went out expecting to just walk a mile at a somewhat brisk pace. By the time I’d finished the mile, I had talked myself into running at least a half-mile at a relatively fast pace (for me). I ended up running a half-mile with an average pace of 9:51.
Now for the downside. I have exercise induced asthma. I forgot to use my inhaler before running (and didn’t bring it with me). By the time I’d finished the half-mile, I was wheezing and gasping like nuts. I had no leg/back pain though. Maybe I’m finally getting the hang of this. Tomorrow I’m running a mile with Zach. I’d like to do it in 11 minutes or less. And now I sleep!

The past 4 or 5 days have been pretty bad for working out/eating right. And I haven’t even made an update since Oct 1st. I’m having some pretty weird stomach issues (upset stomach almost all the time, stomach cramps very frequently) combined with a ton of sinus and chest congestion. I’ll be paying my doctor another visit on Monday I guess.
Anyway. I’m going to weigh in tomorrow morning. I’m also stopping by the grocery after work to pick up some healthier foods to eat this week. My friend, Zach, is starting this adventure with me. We’ll be running 3/4 days per week and trying to keep our calories below 2k a day. Should be easy enough… assuming I can get over this cold or whatever it is. Bleh
When I say “Sick” I don’t mean “awesome” or “good”. I mean “lay in bed all day” sick. I’m finally, after 16-17 hours of laying in bed/sleeping, able to get up. I’m certainly feeling much better now at least. I’ll probably stay up until 3-4AM, sleep for a few hours, then get up and run. Tomorrow’s going to be a good day! Jenny and I have been dating for about 3 weeks… and we’re finally going on our first real “date” tomorrow. That’s what we get for having bizarre work schedules.
I couldn’t stay in… I just had to run! Sweat!!!
UPDATE: Had to do my post-run stretches.
My time today was 11:55. I’m not really sure if RunKeeper is very accurate because I definitely feel like I ran harder/faster today. Who knows. I was pretty discouraged when I saw that my time was worse (by 2 seconds) today. After thinking about it however, this is only the second time I’ve ever run a mile. Improvement will come. My body just needs to adjust haha. Shins are a bit sore after the run (didn’t hurt while running though). That means tomorrow is definitely an off day. =(
UPDATE 2: Maybe I’ll come across enough money to buy a bicycle tomorrow! (unlikely)
I don’t want to overdo it… so I’ve decided to run every other day for a while. Today’s the “Other” day. I really want to run. I wonder if it would be okay to bike on off days.
I forgot that I had planned to post a list of milestones/goals. These are my goals that I will, hopefully, complete before January 2011. Here goes!
I’d say these are fairly reasonable. I’d like to be ready to enter a 10K by January sometime. If I can’t run five miles without stopping by Jan, odds are I won’t be doing a 10K haha.
Gotta enjoy the Diet Cokes while I can. Switching to 99% water on October 1st. Lots of water!
I am so proud. I just ran a mile! More to come…
UPDATE: Had to stretch, towel off a bit, and grab a water.
My time was 11:37. Definitely tons of room for improvement but this is the first time that I can say, without a doubt, that I ran an entire mile without stopping once (for anything).
MILESTONE 1: COMPLETED (I’ll post my list of “Milestones” after sleep)
UPDATE 2: I just realized that I ran for 11:53… How is it that it took me 11:53 to run a mile yet my average pace was 11:37? I guess I ran an 11:53 mile. I’m still okay with that. It gives me something more to work toward!
